The DKS-501 sniper rifle is a long range projectile weapon featured in Fallout and Fallout 2. This rifle allows the user to cause extreme damage to enemies from very long range, especially if the player character has the necessary attributes to induce the more destructive critical hit effects. I have the standard sniper rifle and its not quite up to snuff against things like Deathclaws. Should I get the anti material rifle to take them out? Or is there another I should look for? I know there is a unique sniper rifle at the snipers nest location but my lockpick isnt high enough to get it yet.

With maxed out rifleman pipe rifle with a.45 receiver does 44 damage. A combat rifle with a calibrated powerful recover does 98 damage. A pipe rifle with a calibrated powerful receiver does 38 damage, a combat rifle with a.38 receiver does 50 damage.Just talking about interchangeable ammo, combat rifles do more than double damage per round with.45 and almost another quarter with.38.now, not to say I don't have a.38 pistol with kneecapper, because that's a handy little gun, but for sheer DPS, it's a joke. My point was that the bolt action pipe rifle was almost as good as the hunting rifle while being cheaper and easier upgrade, also a fair bit lighter to boot.If memory serves the revolver pipe rifle was near CR damage yet had bad ammo and rof.
Fallout 1 Sniper Rifle Mod
I think the damage at low gun nut was close, however it's been been a while. On survival runs the weight was also a factor for me early on.The generic pipe gun you mentioned was just something to use.38 ammo I think. Outside of an early panic gun did not have much role for me. I've tried going for using the Hunting Rifle, but I always end up using a Combat Rifle after a while. As others mentioned, the Hunting Rifle can be modded up earlier, but once you get the appropriate perks (both combat skill and crafting perks) the.308 Combat Rifle tends to outshine the Hunting Rifle. Also, in my experience, the.50 cal receiver for the Hunting Rifle isn't quite worth it in terms of damage increase over the.308 when ammo availability is taken into account. Also, with a Combat Rifle, if you mess up the shot and get spotted, you can always just use that increased magazine size and rate of fire to blast everything;-).
